SPORT EXPLAINED
A score has a hierarchy
POINTSGAMESSETS

Read each number at its own level. A set lead is not the same as a completed match result.

Game
A unit made up of points.
Set
A unit made up of games under the format’s rules.
Tie-break
A scoring procedure used at a specified stage.

Read the hierarchy of the score.

A tennis match is made up of sets, a set of games and a game of points. These layers appear together on a scoreboard but answer different questions. A player can lead a game while trailing the set, or win a set without winning the match.

Identify the match format.

Competition rules determine the required sets, tie-break procedure and any deciding match tie-break. Singles and doubles formats can differ. Court surface is event context, not a settlement rule. Read the full competition and format before comparing results from different tournaments.

Check completion conditions.

A retirement, walkover or suspended match may affect different market types in different ways. The playing rules and the sportsbook settlement conditions are not interchangeable. For a game, set or match selection, check how much play must be completed and what happens if the scheduled format changes.

Questions, answered.

Does a tie-break always use the same target?

No. The applicable match and competition format determines its tie-break procedure. Read the event rules, especially for a deciding set or match tie-break.

Does this tennis guide show live availability?

This is an editorial guide to tennis. It does not show a live catalogue, table list or fixture feed. Check the current official lobby for availability and the selected version’s rules.

Keep exploring sports.
