Read the rally, game and match.
Separate individual rallies, game scores and the overall match. Identify singles or doubles and check the scoring format used by the competition.
Read the guideRallies contribute to a game; completed games determine the match under its format. A game winner and a match winner are different outcomes.
- Rally
- A sequence of play that ends with a point awarded.
- Game
- One scoring unit within a match.
- Doubles
- A match involving a pair on each side.
Know the participants and format.
Badminton listings distinguish singles and doubles, with a pair acting as one side in doubles. Check the full player or pair names, event category and tournament round. Similar names across singles, mixed doubles and other events do not identify the same match.
Confirm the scoring system.
BWF publishes both laws and alternative scoring systems. The familiar best-of-three, twenty-one-point format is described in its simplified rules, but the competition’s applicable format must be checked rather than assumed. A game score and the match score measure different levels of progress.
Separate sport rules from settlement.
The playing rules explain how rallies and games are decided. A sportsbook’s terms explain what happens to a selection after a retirement, walkover or interruption. These are different documents. Read the required completion conditions for a game, match or points market before applying a displayed result.
For practical questions, read the terms guide or contact guide. Provider brands are listed separately in the provider directory.
Questions, answered.
Can I assume every badminton listing uses the same scoring system?
No. Check the tournament and the applicable format. BWF publishes alternative systems as well as its standard rules.
Does this badminton guide show live availability?
This is an editorial guide to badminton. It does not show a live catalogue, table list or fixture feed. Check the current official lobby for availability and the selected version’s rules.
