SPORT EXPLAINED
Identify a race without ambiguity
MEETINGRACERUNNER

Keep all three details together when reading a listing or asking support about an event.

Meeting
A programme of races at a venue.
Runner
A horse entered in a particular race.
Non-runner
An entered horse that does not take part.

Use the full race identity.

The venue, meeting date and race number identify an event together. Runner names and numbers need that context. A number may be reused in another race, and a meeting can contain several distances or race types. Confirm the current race card instead of relying on an isolated runner number.

Understand the race context.

Flat and Jump racing are distinct categories in the British Horseracing Authority’s programme. Distance, surface and conditions help describe an event, but they do not establish a guaranteed outcome. Other jurisdictions have their own formats and rules, so use the information for the actual meeting being described.

Wait for the relevant result status.

A provisional finish and an official result are not always the same stage of information. Non-runners, dead heats and amended results require the applicable settlement terms. A win selection and a place selection ask different questions, and place conditions can depend on the event and market.

Questions, answered.

Is a runner number enough to identify a selection?

No. Keep the meeting, date, race and runner together. Numbers can repeat across different races.

Does this horse racing guide show live availability?

This is an editorial guide to horse racing. It does not show a live catalogue, table list or fixture feed. Check the current official lobby for availability and the selected version’s rules.

Keep exploring sports.
